supplies to make traveling with what I liked to use easier. At the craft store, I did come across a small filofax that I had seen people raving about online, but I was just not that impressed. Sure, it was cute inside, but the outside pattern of chevrons forming a wave pattern just was not my cup of tea. I also did not think it could fit what I needed when I traveled. Yesterday, my fiancee and had gone to REI and found our way into the mall to walk around and get exercise in a fairly warm place. We stopped by our usual stores and one my favorite places is Hot Topic. [Don't judge. When I was younger and 'age appropriate' for there, I never had money and I never fit into the clothes. :p] While I was looking around to see what was new and I found a make up case featuring Ariel, Disney's Little Mermaid. I tend to have a love-hate relationship with most of the Disney Princess franchise. I love how the new creatives are drawing them and designing them for merchandise and I do love a lot of the stories (with Tangled being number one in my book), but I also can see many of the flaws in the stories and even though I attempt to put a "different time" lens on things, there are still a lot of problems with even the more modern stories (including Tangled, but don't even get me started on the travesty that was Frozen.) I looked over the makeup case and tried to see how well the item was made. It was a standard case, nothing dramatically special about it: plastic fabrics, clear plastic casing, plastic zippers... I hoped I could recycle it all when I was done! What was really nice about it was that it all fit into the largest case, and when I tested to see if my journal fit inside, it not only fit as well, but it fit with the other bags inside with it. The smaller pouches had paper stuffed into them to bulk them out when I tested this, so I knew that even when they were full up with supplies I would be able to put my journal inside of it as well. That coupled with the fact it was only $20 (where that case that had failed me was like $25-$30) made me excited to get it.
am unable to cut along with other paper decorations in an older plastic zip bag from my Carpe Diem planner I used to use. That also fits in with everything else and now happily lives in this traveling case. Inside the medium pouch, I was able to put in my Maped Graph Pens and recycle that case they were still in from when I purchased them. I love to condense! I also love to stay organized, so I have a lot of other cases we won't talk about just yet. ;) I also put into the medium pouch my Tombow Adhesive Tape, some of my Deco Tape dispensers, a pair of scissors, and I still have room for some more items. I had considered putting in stamp materials in there, but decided against it as I do not always carry or need my stamps all the time. Usually when I want to add stamp work, I will do it while I am laying out my design for that week or at the end of the day when I find some left over room to decorate. I thought this might also encourage me to draw more of my own things. (I have some plans for the next journal!) Even with the two bags, the zip bag, and the journal inside the largest bag, there is still a little bit of room at the top so I could add in other things if I wanted. I might pick up a short ruler to store in there so I can leave my rainbow-bubble one at home where it won't get ruined and still allow me to have a straight edge when laying out designs on quiet nights at work. Overall, I am quite pleased with this arrangement. I am sure it will have some weak points, which is why I made sure my scissors were not very sharp before storing them inside the bag, and that I will have to be more vigilant with my supplies to ensure that the makeup-turned-bujo traveling case holds up.
