As you can see, I wrote my name and my address (covered for privacy) and included a fanciful wave-like border around it. This was further decorated with an image of an orca. At first I was very unhappy with how it turned out. Overtime, however, I came to like the little drawing I did there. I believe that the reason I did not like it at first was, in part, due to it being the first mark in the book and I was harder on myself because of it.
In a way, all the marks that I made throughout the journal were these first marks. Though I had been warned against it, I was constantly looking to other journalists to make up my mind on things I liked because I lacked the confidence to accept that what I was doing was okay. I want to echo the warning that I received before and I want you to take it to heart: You will make mistakes and that is okay. Do not compare yourself to others as all bullet journals are different and beautiful. Take inspiration from others, yes, but do not devalue yourself or your journal because it does not look like the one you are idolizing. When I first started, I took a lot of inspiration from journalists like Boho Berry and others that I found online through Pinterest and other means. After a few weeks of using her style to journal in, I branched out and took small steps to make my journal more of my own thing. No one has to see your bullet journal but you. No one has to know that your first few pages may not have been your best work unless you show them (and in my experience people are even impressed by that.) Your journal is an extension of you and you will grow and change as you use it. Embrace your mistakes (or even cover them with printable coloring pages!), learn from them, and keep going forward.
