was on then write a comma then the next page number the subject appeared on. The best example of this is seen in the image above under November with the crochet pages. I've written it here to make it a little easier to read: 142-3, 149 Crochet Patterns (Blankets, Roses) The numbers "142-3" indicate that there are crochet patterns found on pages 142 and 143. Then "149" indicates the next page that another crochet pattern is found upon. In parenthesis I wrote what the patterns were for so I could know at a glance and know if that was the pattern I was looking for. If you do not have a Lechttrum1917 journal, the amount of pages you allot to the index is up to you, though I have heard that three is standard. If you plan on writing out everything on its own line and not combinding pages like in my example above, you may want to use more.
If you study the image closer, you will see that some symbols don't have their meaning expressed, such as the clock drawing. This had originally meant to signal when I had to go to a meeting, but I started using stamps for specific meetings and appointments on the days that they were held as well as color-coding the hours of my day so I could see how I was spending my time each day. I started to list the color coding in my key so I knew why certain days in my future log were certain colors, but I added more colors and meanings after I started documenting my hours. It became a little troublesome to have to flip back and forth in my journal to ensure I was using the right colors for the right hours, so I made a small folding tab and affixed it to the inside cover. Inside the tab I wrote down all the colors and their meanings that I had given them. The tab, when opened, would be visible from any page in the journal, but fold up neatly and not stick out when the journal was closed. This tab can also be used to house your key if you want to have it easily accessible and don't have your symbols memoized yet.
